Robbie's Back - Division 3 Promotion
Written 26-10-10 by WacaGround FC

TM Australia is proud to announce another new expert reporter to the team; Robbie Earle.  Robbie is an English-born Jamaican former international footballer, scoring eight international goals.  Since his retirement, Earle has moved into sports journalism and has worked for many TV and radio stations.  In June 2010, he was unceremoniously sacked from ITV for giving away World Cup tickets for the Holland v Denmark match.  The incident also led to him losing his role as an ambassador for England's 2018 World Cup bid.

Earle was awarded an MBE in 1999 for his services to football.  In 2005, he took part on BBC's Strictly African Dancing, and won.  So we are proud to announce that Earle wants to rekindle his journalism aspirations, and he will start off here, at TM Australia, as the official division 3 reviewer.

So let’s get into it.  Robbie Earle’s first article will be looking over all division 3 groups, looking into promotion chances, with his unique style.  Enjoy.

3.1 – Some very strong teams
And unlike division 4 there is a lot of activity, which is great to see

Three teams are clear out on top; the order is yet to be decided.  BROWNSTA 1978 and Kop Stars hold the top two positions; only one point separates the pair.  Redmans army is 5 points in arrears, but hold an unassailable 13 point game over 4th placed Perfies Glory.

BROWNSTA have the run of form, winning the last 4 games with an alarming aggregate scoreline: 20-5.  This is including the round 27 10-1 thrashing of an unfortunate Balmain Bulldogs.  They have scored 83 times this season, and need another 17 from the last 4 rounds to break the century.  Can they do it?

Kop Stars on the other hand are having some trouble of late.  After an amazing start, only losing the one game in 27 rounds, they have shuddered to a halt.  Kop Stars have only won one of the last six league games, and despite a terrific season, may miss out on promotion with redmans army biting at their tail.

Home-grown BROWNSTA offensive midfielder, Lucas Matera, leads the goal tally with 23.  He is also equal first on the average ratings, 7.17 through all 30 games.  Still in his early 20’s he looks set to be a star, not only for BROWNSTA, but for Australia as well.  Keep an eye on him for the future, I know I will.

So really, it all comes down to round 31.  BROWNSTA face Kop Stars in a match that will be on for young and old.  It will decide who finishes first, and who has to worry about redmans army biting at their tail.  Kop stars won the clash earlier this season 4-1 by playing attacking football and shutting down BROWNSTA’s world-class midfield.  Can Kop Stars do it again, jumping back on the winners’ cart?  I think so.  It’s Kop Stars for me; 2-0.

I caught up with BROWNSTA manager, Benny Brown, during the week.

Robbie Earle: Benny Brown it is a pleasure to be talking to you today on behalf of TM Australia. Your season so far, it has been pretty good, hasn't it! Just the three losses at the round 30 stage. You look set to gain promotion into division 2.1 in one of the top 2 positions. How have you felt this season has gone so far?

Benny Brown: Well Robbie, this season has gone better than anyone would have predicted. We set ourselves a goal to finish in the top 3, and at present are more than on track to better our expectations.

Robbie: Your performance this year has been impressive since you were relegated from here back in season 16. Over those five seasons, what have you done to be in the position you are now in?

BB: Two words: YOUTH POLICY. Luckily, we have managed to draft some fantastic youngsters in the last 4 to 5 seasons. This has been the main reason why the team has excelled. If you look at the starting 11, the average age would be 22/23.

Robbie: Absolutely, an average age like that I really going to help you in future seasons. You seem to base you team around one of the strongest midfields in division three. Was this a set plan of yours?

BB: Without a doubt, our midfield is strong and this is something we have slowly worked to achieve. With players like Matera, Breen, and Pickett, it’s hard for any defence to cope. When you look at this season’s stats, our team have scored 83 goals with our lone striker only scoring 11. The majority of the goals are being scored by our midfield. The numbers don’t lie.

Robbie: I was a midfielder back in my day... what a great position to play... Anyway, back on track. You look set to promote into group 2.1, arguably the strongest group, do you think that you are ready, and up for the challenge?

BB: In my opinion, it is not div 2.1, but more like div 1.2. The teams in this division are some of the hardest, most seasoned competitors in the country. Honestly Robbie, this will be the greatest test the club has ever faced. The boys know there will be no easy games and a very real chance of a quick relegation back to div 3.  But money can’t buy the experience a team gains from playing in the same league as some of the best clubs in the land, and it’s this challenge that, as a club, we look forward to.

Robbie: Finally, you play Kop Stars on Wednesday; he thrashed you last time you met. How is this going to be different this time round?

BB: We all know this game will probably decide who wins the title. I’m not a big believer in form, knowing any team can win on any given day. Our last outing against kop was pathetic; thrashed at home, in front of a sell-out crowd, it doesn't get much worse. I think it will come down to which team handles the immense pressure of the occasion best.

Robbie: Thanks Benny, all the best in, what I am sure will be, a tough uphill battle next season in 2.1.

I also had a quick chat during the week with Yoda.  Yep, it’s the Kop Stars’ manager.

Robbie Earle: You have had quite a battle with Brownsta this season. How has this season panned out so far, from your perspective?

Yoda: Well Robbie up until about 2 weeks ago all was fine, now it’s a dogfight plain and simple and hopefully we will come out on top

Robbie: Relegated from division 2.1 last season (just), how has your team fought back? You have certainly done it before, you seem to be yo-yoing between the two divisions.

Yoda: In every league there are 17 other teams all wanting to win as bad as the next, squads get improved, it’s tough, but yeah we have been a bit up and down over the seasons , but we are promoting more youths so the future should abode well

Robbie: One criticism of your team, as been the lack of depth. Outside your first XI, your second string are pretty poor. Do you plan to fix this before next season, or are finances too much of an issue?

Yoda: I think I’ve sort of answered that in my previous statement... (not willing to go further)

Robbie: Okay then, one last one, you have only won one of the last six league games, you now come up against a rampaging Brownsta. You beat him earlier this season by playing attacking football and shutting down his midfield. Will you try to do the same again?

Yoda: Maybe, we shall see.

Tip: Kop Stars finishing ahead of BROWNSTA, with redmans army not so far behind.  Basically, it is the winner of Wednesday’s game that will take out the trophy.

3.2 – A hot battle for 2nd
More activity here

Lismore lead them out, 8 points clear of Redman United.  Anyone from 2nd to 5th could end up with that final promotion position.  Pompey blew another chance for promotion, going down at home to Albion Park Cows.  In the past three seasons Pompey has been agonisingly close to promotion, finishing 3rd twice and 4th last season.  This season looks set for much the same, the six point gap seems to big, with their next match against league leaders Lismore.

Winie and Lampards were the early standouts, winning all matches up until their round 6 clash.  Winie got up in that one, but they haven’t been able to continue this form.  Lampards have had a disappointing season, and struggle to score goals.  The only reason why they are as high as eighth, is that their defensive mentality is preventing opposition sides from scoring; 10 draws this season.  These two teams are out of the promotion battle, but they can influence the result greatly.  Lampards face three of the top 4 sides in the last four rounds.  Winie play Redman United and WacaGround FC in their run home.

So the battle for 2nd place is between 4 clubs; Redman United, Jim Utd, Sporting S.P.C., and WacaGround FC.  Redman have one of the best squads, but face a tough finish.  Jim Utd are much the same, their probably have the best squad in the group, but have the hardest run home, finishing with Tottenham XI who can beat anyone on their day.  Despite having the easiest run home, Sporting are not good enough to finish 2nd, they look destined for 5th or 6th.  WacaGround have a good run home, the only challenge being Jim Utd.  But the loss on Sunday to bottom of the ladder, Port Pirie, really hurts their chances.  The will probably finish second behind either Jim Utd or Redman.

The goal scoring has been spread around for these four clubs, with Redman’s Craig Rapp 5th on the goal scoring list with 14.  His brother Mike, playing for Jim Utd, sits one goal behind him.  David Ottens over at WacaGround FC also sits on 13 goals for the season.  David sits 2nd with 6.86 on the average ratings, Lismore’s Bjarnason leads all comers with 6.93.  Discipline is an issue at many clubs in this group, namely WacaGround, Perth Kiwi and Jim.

I caught up with Lismore FC manager, Travis, during the week.

Robbie: Travis, it is a pleasure to be talking to you today on behalf of TM Australia. You have been clear at the top of the ladder for quite some time now, was this something that you expected?

Travis: Not at all I've learned not to expect anything in TM. But it's been a pleasant surprise.

Robbie: You have based you team around a strong midfield group and an excellent keeper, but you have no defence or forward line to speak of. How have you done this?

Travis: Basically a good keeper can do wonders in this game then you only need to steal a goal.

Robbie: That good keeper, Asmund Haveland, has been you shining light this season, now you are selling him. Is this purely a financial decision? Can you survive division 2 without him?

Travis: I have a brilliant youth N. Corey who will replace him and yes to be honest it's mostly financial. I'm confident we can stay up next season with Corey if I can also find a goalscorer.

Robbie. Not many people know this, but you have had A-League experience. You spent four seasons there, starting season 7, can you get back up there?

Travis: Sure but it'll take a while and I need to do it by developing my youth so financially it'll be difficult but you never know your luck in this game.

Robbie: Finally, you have been in this game a long time. There is an intense battle below you for 2nd spot. Who is your tip to get that final promotion spot?

Travis: Well of course I wish everyone well but the way I'm playing lately it might be me. If not I think Jim united will get up. Thanks for the interview.

Robbie: Thanks for your time, all the best for the remainder of this season, and we wish you all the best in division 2 next season.

Tip: Lismore will finish out on top, but will fall straight back down next season.  Redman will finish second, with WacaGround and Jim very close behind.  It might come down to goal difference...

3.3 – A return to Division Two for two
Another group with a clear leader and a battle for second place.

Hadys Hope is comfortable at the top of the leader board, taking full points on 25 occasions.  Sydney Blitz and Soccer Club Santos fight it out for 2nd, only one point separating the two clubs.  Hadys have a huge squad with some amazing players within.  William Solly is the star up front while Nick Glynn stops opposition forwards in their tracks, only conceding the 10 goals for the season thus far.  We caught up with manager, Moey, during the week.

Robbie Earle: Moey, you’re back to division 2 next season after having a taste in season 20. Are you better prepared this time around?

Moey: Without any doubt, I am better placed for the rigours of Division 2 than my last promotion. There are a couple of reasons;
a) another year of football into my kids has been a large factor especially when you take into consideration the routine that is required in our great game today, experience is essential.
b) Hady's Hope decided to invest in a reserves team that is currently sitting top of 5.10.

I stated above that routine is important, but in my ability to identify players that are capable, has helped the squad develop. I have promoted kids such as Elson, Gibbs, Hille and Sumner after standout performances in my reserves and they have helped our seniors prosper. Without the investment in the reserves, I would not have been able to tap into the talent at our disposal.

Robbie: You have a huge squad, what are your reasons behind this?

Moey: I am willing to sacrifice some of our hard earned to identify talent that will ultimately have Hady's Hope join the cream of Australia in Collingwood, Guards, Harry Cool in Division 1. By having a large squad I am able to try kids and test them in the rigours of top flight football.

I am not one to play the transfer market but would like to promote talent from within.  We are about giving chances to kids at Hady's Hope and we have a large pool of kids that will hopefully take us a long way.

Out of our current squad of 60 there are only 5 players over 30 and that will reduce to 2 or 3 next year. We definitely dont want to have list cloggers but do provide ample time for kids to prove themselves and hence the large squad.

Robbie: Thank you for talking to us today, all the best

Moey: Thanks mate.  Thanks for giving me the opportunity to answer your questions.

Interestingly, current leaders of group 3.2, Lismore F.C, finished last in the same group.  What a turnaround it has been for these two clubs.  Soccer Club Santos was the other team relegated that season, who now sit in 3rd place.  An eight week injury to Tommy Stevns may harm Santos’ chances of promotion this season, opening the door for the young Sydney Blitz side to secure that final promotion position.

Both Sydney Blitz and Soccer Club Santos have strong young sides, and whoever promotes will challenge many division 2 sides.  Whoever doesn’t gain promotion this time round is a near certainty to finish top next season.

Daniel Appleford from Perth Glory FC looks set to take out the most goals award, but zerocoll’s Vaughn Clark has a couple of opportunities to score a few and could challenge.  3 goals is the gap that he needs to bridge.  William "Wonka" Whitnall and John Ring will continue their respective club’s rivalries, both locked on 17 goals.

Tip: I get Sydney Blitz to get another 8 points from their remaining four matches to finish on 71 points, while I also get Soccer Club Santos to get another 8 point from their matches, meaning that they will finish on 70 points for the season.  This is assuming a drawn game for the Round 33 clash between these two sides.  If anyone can muster up a win from that game, they will finish 2nd.  So my tip is for Hadys Hope to finish 1st (of course) and Sydney Blitz to finish 2nd, only one point clear of Soccer Club Santos.  Tigers Edge will nick 4th spot from zerocool fc.  There are many good team in this group, and it will certainly be one to watch out for in the future.

3.4 – A quite division 3 group
I feel a bit like the leader...

Uninspired Wanderers lead the way, sitting on 63 points.  Uninspired they may be, but they have a pretty strong squad.  Solid all round the ground, it is hard to find a fault.  They have only tasted success the once in their time in the game; this will be the club’s second trophy.  Division 2 clubs will need to watch out for seasoned Nick Eagleton at DL.  Jason O'Loughlin is also a man on the rise; he hasn’t had a huge impact this season, but watch out for him in the future.

Mooskie are currently sitting second, but do not have the best of squads.  Finances are a major issue at the club.  Mooskie is not the biggest of traders, but will need to do something to resurrect this problem; otherwise the hole is going to get deeper and deeper.  The club’s last purchase was back at the end of September, where Ned Asphar was purchased from A-League side Granado KingZ.  Don’t be surprised to see Mooskie get pipped at the line by a fast finishing Newcastle United FC with Nicolas Burton kicking another 3 or 4.

Tip: Uninspired Wanderers will finish out on top, with Newcastle United FC earning the only other promotion position, 2nd.  Mooskie will spend another season in Division 3, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them relegated.

3.5 – A quite group with a Loud manager
Yep, it’s cambellfield... cambellfield cambellfield cambellfield cambellfield

The Mighty Gunners is yet another example of a division 3 side with financial difficulties.  I reckon that it is the ‘B-teams’ that are causing this whole debacle; whether you agree with me on this or not it is certainly something that many teams have not got the hang of.  Clubs, particularly lower division clubs (div 3 and 4) have an obsession.  The mentality is: “If I have the ability to get on, I will most certainly get it”.  Why, they have no idea.  “To gain routine” is the common line used.  Yes that’s great, but it is no good if you have a team of players gaining routine who are never going to be at a level sufficient enough, skill-wise, to play for your A-team.  Many people are wasting TM money on these players’ wages.  Sydney Blitz is another example of this.  People don’t think of the financial consequences when purchasing a B-team, you don’t need a squad the size of 50 in division 3.  Come on people, wake up!

Over his time is the game, the mighty gunners, has made so good purchases.  Aswad " Van Persie " Molla is a prime example.  Purchased for $123 million at the start of season 18, he has gone on to kick 58 goals in 119 games at the club at an average rating of 6.05.  Still in his mid-20s he has been an excellent purchase.  Appropriately named, Kaka, was another good purchase.  Bought in mid-S16 for $15 million, he has kicked 13 goals in 26 games this season (a goal every second game).  But the club’s last purchase was back at the end of the financial year, in June.

The mighty gunners are a good squad, and they should do okay in division 2 next season if they are able to sort their finances out.  Now we come to outspoken Campbellfield.  He sits 5 point behind in 2nd.  Say what you like about the manager, but he has got some pretty good players in his squad.  French keeper, Constantin Crochet, has been the club’s shining light this season.  He has only conceded 25 goals at an average rating of 7.70; he has earned an amazing 12 Man of the Match awards this season alone.  We talked about the mighty gunners’ good purchases, but this guy is a stand out.  Crochet was bought three seasons ago for a tad under $150 million.  Yes, he may be old (at 33) but he has been great for cambellfield.  He has not missed one match since purchase, playing 101 games at an average rating of 7.355.

We mentioned age, and age is the big problem with this club.  With no players under the age of 25; the average squad age is 30.8.  The club relies on certain players, but they are all old, when they retire there is nothing left.  Stars like Crochet, Schmidt, and Wood are all nearing retirement; Yuji Kurokawa has already announced his decision to hang up the boots at the end of the season.

In saying all this, the team 2 points behind will take 2nd place at the end of the season.  Kick Started have a tight, strong squad, with talent where it is needed.  Noticing the need for a better keeper, Kick Started when out and purchased Wu JiaMing for $220 million.  This will prepare him for division 2 if he is to be promoted this season, it not, he will dominate division 3 next season.  Keep an eye out for Chic Martin and Mike McFadden, two who have come straight from the Youth Academy.

I liken Chic to myself, back in my day I used to take the free kicks with blistering power and unwavering accuracy.  If Chic has a career like mine, he will most certainly be one to watch.

Tip: the mighty gunners will finish out on top, heading to division 2 along with Kick Started.  Cambellfield will just miss out this season, and I can’t see him getting up any time soon.  Ascoli Calcio Adelaide looks like a goodie, watch out for him in the future.

3.6 – Clubs living up to their names
Latecomers finishing off well, and pendulum is continuing to swing

This is quite an active little group; this is the kind of thing that I like to see.  This may be the ‘weaker’ side of TM, but it is certainly interesting.  The latecomers are living up to their name, and this being only their 5th season they will be moving up into Division 2.  Three points separate the top 5 clubs, and anyone of them is a chance for promotion, barring NFI United who will be marked as inactive by season end.

Jambalaya United currently hold 2nd place after promoting from division 5 last season.  They have an unnecessary large squad, but they have a strong midfield and forward line.  It is a surprise, and a disappointment, that Bruce Barnsley hasn’t helped the club score more goals this season.  He played game 250 last week.  Henry Rate has played well this season, and helped them be in the position that they are now in.  They will not promote this season though, they need another couple of seasons in division 3 before they can challenge in division 2.  First thing that they need to do is cut down on that squad size!

Ignoring NFI, busting broncos are next on the list.  The squad looks good, but they are lacking in a central defender, much like many clubs.  400 game superstar Chuck Larke will retire at season end, one of the ‘great’ players down in the lower divisions for many seasons, I wish him all the best in retirement.  Broncos have a solid squad, but it might struggle in division 2, if they were to promote.

Next on the list is Budgedy Reds.  There are no real surprises when you look up and down this squad, there are no key players, no stand outs, but you see a strong team of average ability.  It is a team that will finish top 5 in division 3 every season, but never make that final step.  The Reds may need to make funds available by selling 350 game veteran, Thomas Garry.  He would sell for close to that $100 million mark.  With this money, and Fred Tivendale in goal, they could buy a world-class midfielder than will take them to division 2, and enable them to take that next step.

Two of the most active, but little known clubs, in division 3 sit near the bottom of the ladder.  Wino United and Western Sydney Sharks have a good rivalry, and keep the forums going.  Both teams should be able to avoid relegation this season.  Wino is going through a re-building stage, and it will take some time for them to start to see results.  Bruce Renton will be a key player for them going into the future.  Western Sydney is a team with a strong youth group; they will be very good in future seasons.  They will struggle for the next couple, but after that they will be a force to be reckoned with.  Who wins this rivalry?  Wino this season, but look for Western Sydney to dominate into the future.

Tip: Latecomers to finish out on top with busting broncos a close second.  Jambalaya United will drop off late and finish 4th.  Budgedy Reds will finish 3rd.

3.7 – Promoted IPU showing the way
Top 2 positions look set

With consistent game play throughout the entire season, Ignatius Park United has been all class.  Three specific players have been instrumental to this success.  Jim Sanders leads all comers with an average rating of 7.07.  He has also kicked 11 goals.  At 32, he has played 239 matches for IPU, booting over 50 goals.  Zach Hebb is slightly below him, in terms of average rating.  He has averaged 6.93 and has scored 13 goals, for this he is in the Top 10 for both average rating and goals scored.  The final player I would like to mention is Fredy Cambiasso.  With 16 goals, he is the leading goal scorer for IPU.  In his 77 games at the club he has scored 43 goals.  The draw against Fremantle United on Sunday was his 100 career game.  IPU manager, Curtis, had this to say regarding his final few rounds;

“"We have played well throughout the entire season, because of this I believe that we will be bringing the fans into the second division next season.”

ACT sits 11 points behind in 2nd.  They will have a tough little run home with leading goal scorer, Stan Molotsi out for 3 weeks, but this will mean that he will be back for the big Round 34 clash with Ignatius Park United.   Recent signing, Miguel Mora, is also out with injury, this time just the two weeks.  He has scored 6 goals in the 7 matches that he has played for the club this season.  When fit, he will perform well in division 2 next season.  ACT will promote.  When injury hits this squad, it hurts them significantly; they need to do something about this if they are to say up next season.  I am sorry to say, but I see them coming straight back down.  Keep your eye on Mick Fenner.

David Fisher leads the goal scoring tally for the group with 20 goals.  This Dellis FC forward has been the clubs only shining light this season as they sit in a mid-table position.  Fisher has been playing alongside fellow forward Helder Nogueira this season, Nogueira has only managed the 8 goals.

Both FC Sturt and Fremantle United, who sit 3rd and 4th respectively, have reasonably strong squads.  They are both a good chance to promote next season.  Fremantle offensive midfielder (good position), Bruce Whiteside, is sitting second on the average ratings tally with 7.03 through 29 matches played.  He has also booted 16 goals.  Bruce is in his mid-20s and will play a key role in Fremantle United’s promotion hopes next season, and beyond.

Tip: I just his 8th season of TM, Ignatius Park United will taste division 2 football.  They will finish out in 1st ahead of ACT.  This is ACT’s 8th season (ironically) in division 3.7, and he will be happy to be out.  Fremantle United should take out the same 3rd spot he took out last season.

3.8 – We wanted active groups
And we got em’

What a fantastic group is would be to be in, the level of activity on the forums is great, namely from Brisbane Hotspurs.  Both SockaRoos and Brisbane Barbarians look set for promotion into division 2.  3rd place will be fought out by five clubs, all with a good chance of taking out this place.

Let’s firstly turn our attention to league leaders, SockaRoos.  One thing I can say straight out is that they can be beaten, in fact for the leaders of the group they have lost on seven occasions.  This is another club that is crippling in debt, with a B-team... but I won’t go on.  Nicholas McAbe has had the season of his life.  Not only does he top the ground highest average rating with a whopping 8.04, but he also tops Division 3.  In fact he is coming second in Australia (the leader is Sean Appleton from division 5 B-team, B FC Brisbane Strikers with 8.13).  SockaRoos have spent three seasons in division two, getting relegated twice (S16 & S19).  SockaRoos were unlucky not to promote last season, finishing 3rd, only 2 points behind Ayers Rock

The average age of SockaRoos is another strong point, 20.25 is the average age of the whole squad (including B-team).  Keeper, Grant Downing, was recently purchased for $68 million.  It was a great buy and he will help them stay in division 2.3 next season, which I am sure they will.  Watch out for Nicholas McAbe when the NT comes back to life.

Currently sitting 2nd is the Brisbane Barbarians.  It is a surprise that they are so high up the ladder, with the squad that they have.  It may be of 60 in size, but to be honest, it is no good.  They are really going to struggle in division 2 next season.  The backline needs to be much improved upon; a new keeper is needed and the whole defence needs to be changed.  This is another very young side, but that is no excuse in division 2, and they will find themselves straight back down.  Elvan Foto, whom was bought for $125 million earlier this season, has kicked 19 goals from 23 games.  At 22, he will be an important player for Brisbane Barbarians in the future.

Watch out for tea gardens fc next season.  They are very unlucky not to promote this season, but are near certainties next season.  They are not out of promotion hopes yet, but it will be extremely hard, and a few results will have to fall their way.  Watch for Chresten Benjaminsen to play a key part in this campaign.  American born, Brad Walker, has been the shining light with an average rating of 6.92.  At 25 he has more than a few season like this left in him.  He will win Player-of-the-year in season 22.

Tip: SockaRoos will finish 1st, ahead of Brisbane Barbarians.  Tea gardens fc probably deserve that second position more, or at least they would use it better, but they will finish a close 3rd.  Thankfully, for all of us, Brisbane Hotspurs will survive another season in division 3.

3.9 – Last and probably least
Not too much going on here

Roosters and everton fc are certainties to promote this season.  Both clubs are very strong and they will do well in division 2 next season.  It will be the Roosters second taste of division 2, after spending just one season there in season 19.  They are much stronger this time round, and will perform well.  I am sure that they would be much further ahead this season if David Wagner didn’t keep getting injured.  He has only managed the 23 games this season but has scored on 19 occasions, all at an average rating of 6.22.  David will play his 300th match next season.  A lack of depth may cause a few issues next season.

Everton FC started out in season 8.  Since then they played in the A-League once in season 14.  The same year that Dangerous Alliance FC missed out on the double by goal difference, 6 goals would have done the job...  Everton finished 14th that season, losing in the playoff match.  They then spent six consecutive seasons in 2.3, before getting relegated last season.  This season they have hardly put a foot wrong, scoring 82 goals.  Former Collingwood FC forward, Vince Ball, has scored 19 of these.  Midfielders Yves Ford and Yushua Al-Noaema have dominated this season, earning 7.36 and 7.29 respectively.  But both players have had their fair share of injury woes this season, both currently are sidelined with sprained ankles.  With their reasonably strong backline, Everton will survive division 2.3 next season.

The round 33 clash between Mac Fields Riots and Five Points looks set to decide 3rd place (ignoring the banned Keysboro FC).  Five Points is the B-team of Zootsuit.  Mac Fields Riots should win this match.  They have a much better defence, and are actually one of the best teams in division 3; it is a surprise that they are not challenging for promotion.  Mac Fields Riots recently made a terrific purchase, Freaser Kelly was bought (while injured) for only $121 million.  He may be old, but he has a good 3 to 4 seasons left in him and he will help Mac Fields go places.

Tip: Roosters will finish out on top, with Everton a close second.  Mac Fields Riots will finish 3rd, but will win it next season.  Zootsuit’s Five Point will finish 4th.  It is both a shame and a surprise that Aussieroos will be playing in division 4 next season, they are a club that has been around since season 6.  But someone has got to go I suppose...

So that is it.  I hope that you have enjoyed my first article for TM Australia.  If you have any comments or suggestions that you would like to pass on to me, fill in the box below.  Division Three is an exciting caper, and I look forward to covering it for you in future seasons.
