Cup update (Round 6)

The Australian Cup for season 13 has turned into a real underdog show. Many of the top Australian clubs have fell to the sword of lower division sides. This has left a vacuum ready to be filled by a new Australian entity.

Rounds 1 and 2 saw teams from Division 5 and 6 playoff for the right to meet teams from divisions 4 through to the A-league sides. A number of penalty shootouts and convincing wins were the order, including a 5-0 win by Division 5 side East fremantle.

Round 3 was the real start to the Cup. And as is true to cup form some big upsets occured and some big wins. Match of the round was A-league teams GTU and Guards playing off with GTU coming away with a convincing 3-0 win at home.
Division 2 sides Pepes Punters and Oxford Diamonds ( Former A-league team) played an entertaing match withe Pepe stealing the victory 3-1. Drawing attention from the higher division clubs was Belmore Bulldogs with a crushing 8-0 victory.

2 notable teams to fall in Round 3 was former A-league regulars HAWTHORN who continued their poor league form. New A-league side Chemango also fell at the first hurdle with a humbling loss on penalties.

Round 4 was a little more to form however some surprises showed themselves. High profile Alcoholics United lost to division 4 club Perfies Glory. With another A-league familier Melbourne Supremecy going down to suprise team St Newcastle. I'm sure Melbourne didn't expect what else this team had in store.

Belmore Bulldogs displayed another solid performance with a 5-1 win and well known division 2 side Zootsuit came away with a 4-1 win.

Round 5 had a few interesting games. Youth based side Harry Cool showed experience is not allways best with a strong 4-0 win. The round did see two A-league sides drop out of contention. Intermelafer was punished 5-0 and had no answers to the bruising defeat.

The match that really caught the attention of all was the game between Australian TM football legends Dangerous Alliance and high profile division 2 club Zedarba. At the national stadium Hall of Hades, one of this years largest Cup crowds was treated. A 90th minute thriller gave Zedarba the away win 2-1.

Round 6 threw up a big shock. Giant killers St Newcastle slayed A-league big guns AC Newage and showed they may be title contenders. Zootsuit had another fine match winning 5-0.

So it comes to Round 7 with the games to watch being St Newcastle against former A-leaguers Watsons Stingrays. Divisions 3 club Bluey United takes on form side Harry Cool. Belmore Bulldogs remains in the hunt with the golden boot chance and current leader Nathan Primus (9 Goals) staring for the side.

This round will really show the teams that can potentially grab the trophy. And we wait to see who can make it the into the final rounds.
